Yes yes! Been a while since I last posted a Lobster update, and as the leaves are falling and the days are getting shorter again, it seems a good time to fill you in on what we've been up to this summer.

We had been a little quiet for a few months leading up to summer, with Big Al and Elmo both off travelling in seperate parts of the southern hemisphere from April onwards. We returned to action in July with an incredible set at CoCoMad Festival in the lovely surroundings of Cotteridge Park, Birmingham. The sun shined all day, the vibes were massive and we played to potentially the biggest crowd we've ever had!

Next up we had the honour and pleasure of supporting our good friends Malarkey at the launch party of their amazing debut album "Kebabylon". I can't overstate how good the album is, you should buy it or steal it but just make sure you hear it!

The Malarkey show kicked off a busy weekend for us, where we also played a mammoth 2 hour set at "Out to Grass" in the beautiful countryside near Malvern. We had a great day playing alongside the likes of Skewwhiff, The Stiff Joints and Last Tree Squad. To top off the occasion we got to play with a load of friendly dogs, and took a detour through the hilariously named village of 'Suckley' en route back to Brum Town!

The finale to this epic weekend of gigs was a performance at Simmer Down Festival in Handsworth Park. This is an event we have all been to several years in a row, so it was incredible to be offered the chance to play. Watching Maxi Priest close the show to an insanely bumper crowd really put the icing on the cake of a brilliant weekend for us. I don't seem to have any pictures of us at Simmer Down so if you have one we'd love to see it!

In early August we were fortunate to play at Birmingham Town Hall as part of Project Soundlounge Festival. Alongside us were Friendly Fire Band, Malarkey, Namiwa Jazz and a whole host of others. We were spoilt at this gig, with our own changing room in the very plush backstage area! It was wicked to share such a big occasion with musicians that we've been working with for years, and I can't put into words how positive the energy was all day. We closed the night off by going to see Elmo play another set with Dantanna... After party styleee!

To end the summer, we headlined LiFest at The Actress and Bishop on August bank holiday Sunday. It was an honour to finish an event with a line up boasting the likes of the Dirty Old Folkers and Broken Witt Rebels (who we have to say a big thank you to for helping us out with drum equipment!)

So summer may be drawing to a close, but the Lobster army march on! We have some wicked gigs booked for this autumn:

17th September - supporting OPM @ The Boars Head, Kidderminster (yep, the guys who sang 'Heaven is a Halfpipe' back in the day!

6th October - opening up for By The Rivers, alongside our good friends Kioko. Midlands reggae ting - west soyd meets east sard!

10th October - Reggae City Festival - the infamous annual Brum Town reggae festival, headlined this year by Macka B. Tickets are cheap cheap cheap and going fast!

6th November - big one for us as we put on our first Lobster club night at the Hare and Hounds, entitled "LOBSTER SHACK", we will be playing alongside DubCherry, Cold Fields, Go With The Flo and are also bringing you live art from FAFFABOUT.

Big up yaself if you managed to read all of that! Big love to all the people we've met and partied with this summer, and make sure you get down to a few of these bangers that are going off over autumn.

So after 9 weeks in the Australian wilderness, our lead guitarist "Big" Al has returned to these shores. We welcome him back with open arms. Further to this, our bass player (and brains of the operation) 24 Charlie Moore has moved back to Birmingham after three years studying in Cambridge (but not at Cambridge...) Our trumpet player, Mr Moosey Moo AKA Dr Trumpet is still AWOL in Samoa, but that will be resolved soon and we can get back to having some real fun!

Our next show is on Saturday 4th July in Cotteridge Park for CoCoMad Festival, you can check out the digital program for the festival here. CoCoMad is a small, independent and completely free community festival, now in its 19th year! We are also booked to play at our good friends Malarkey's album launch on the 17th July at our second home The Wagon and Horses on Adderley Street in Digbeth. We've waited years for the Malarkey album to be ready and can't wait for all the fun we'll have on the night! We may also have a few other gigs to announce for July, so keep an eye on what we're up to.

Some other news - we are featured in the latest issue of Do The Dog skazine, and must shout a big thank you to Kevin for his continued support. You can subscribe to the zine for just £5, it's always a great read! And on 30th May we received airplay on BBC WM Introducing again, for our track "Queens Head Hunter" - bringing the fire against dodgy promoters and polluting the airwaves!

That just about brings you up to date with what's happening with us, we have some wicked stuff planned for the next few months, with appearances at a couple of festivals and well known local all day events over the summer, we are also laying plans for the first ever Lobster club night which will be happening this autumn, and we start recording a few new tracks next weekend! After a few months of inactivity, suddenly we're about to get really busy!

So our beloved lead guitarist Big Al (whooaaaah!) has departed off down under, but our first few gigs as a 5-piece went well. We had a great time over the weekend, first in Rugby at the infamous London House Ska Bar, then supporting the fast-rising Strike on their double single launch. Finally, we had a great time giving it everything we've got at the Actress and Bishop on Sunday! We sold an incredible amount of CDs last weekend, so thank you to everyone who picked one up!

As we are down to our last few physical copies of Babby inna Babylon, we are selling these for £2 from our bigcartel page - once they're sold out they won't be getting reissued!

We have a gig on Sunday at the Roadhouse in Stirchley, as part of the CocoMad Festival showcase. It'd be great to see some people down for this as it is very likely that we won't be playing any more shows until July as Dr Trumpet joins Big Al on a round the world adventure.

We have been busy booking things for summer time though, expect to see us at a couple of known local festivals and parties around Birmingham this summer, and we're still continually writing new material that will go towards our first full album; which isn't all that far from being completed.

Our new tracks have officially been released, and you can download them for free here!

Our new release "Blotto'd" will be landing on the 16th March and will be available 100% free! This release has two of our newer tracks "Queens Head Hunter" and "Here Comes The Lobsteppa", and we can't wait to get these out there.

We've been working with Jake Cunningham (bassist from Malarkey and Brassick) to get the tracks recorded and they're sounding great. Anyone looking to get some recording done, you're unlikely to find better value anywhere else in the West Midlands.

Another quiet weekend for us, but tickets for Equinox on the 20th March have been flying out - the free tickets are now sold out but donation ones are still available - with a minimum donation of £1. Get involved!

Our next gig will be as a house band at Equinox Mixed Media Festival's award ceremony on 20th March. This is a free event at Birmingham Open Media (BOM Lab) on Dudley Street (B5 4EG). You will have to register for a ticket here though. Check that link for other info on the festival, there's loads of cool stuff happening between the 16th and 20th March. We'll also be playing shows over the Easter weekend, in Rugby on the 3rd April and two Birmingham shows over the 4th and 5th at the Digbeth Institute and the Actress and Bishop. Check the gigs page on here for full details on those.

Really weird hearing ourselves on the radio last night! Anyone who missed the show but would like to hear it can catch it here, it'll be up for streaming for another month or so.

We were the first song played, so you don't have to listen long to hear us!

Forgot to mention yesterday, our track 'Sensi in the Membrane' from our 2013 CD 'Babby Inna Babylon' will be played on BBC WM's Introducing show tomorrow night (Saturday 21st Feb). The show kicks off at 8pm and lasts two hours, tune into 95.6fm if you get the chance because it's well worth a listen. 

I've added a few more things to the site - it's nice to have a collection of our songs and videos all in one place! Also added a link to our merch page, please check it out if you're after a CD or tshirt, it really helps us out when people buy things from there.

No gig for us this weekend, but we'll be back in action soon enough - hope you all have a good one whatever you're up to!

We are looking at booking some more gigs, as we don't have anything set in stone until March 20th, when we will be house band for Equinox Mixed Media festival inna Birmingham. We're really excited to be a part of this!

Also, welcome to our new website! After almost six years together, we decided it was time to bring ourselves into the 21st century. We'll try to keep this up to date with all Lobster activities.
